#1 Nikon D3500 24.2MP DSLR Camera

Nikon D3500 24.2MP DSLR Camera with AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens Bundle with 64GB Memory Card, Camera Bag, 55mm 3 Piece Pro Level Lens Filter Kit, Flash and Accessories (8 Items)

The D3500 tech is also aging compared to rival cameras, but it’s still a great camera to use. Beginners will love Nikon’s Guide Mode, and for the more experienced there are the usual manual control options. The LCD screen isn’t touch-enabled, and it has an optical viewfinder, but those points might actually be a bonus to some photographers.

This little DSLR won’t break the bank, and is a great starter camera or upgrade for your pet photography. It also works with Nikon’s SnapBridge app for fast photo sharing. This can be useful if your clients want to see and/or rate the images you’ve taken, or decide which ones are their favorites.

#2 Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera

Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens | Built-in Wi-Fi | 24.1 MP CMOS Sensor | DIGIC 4+ Image Processor and Full HD Videos

The Canon EOS Rebel T7 is inexpensive, it feels good, and it takes great photos – so if you’re a beginner looking for a basic DSLR, it’s a great choice.

Like the other DSLRs on this list, the T7 is made of plastic. But Canon’s plastic bodies actually feel pretty good in your hands, thanks to their carefully molded features and well-positioned buttons. You’ll also appreciate how small the Canon Rebel T7 is, perfect for doing travel photography or just taking your camera everywhere you go.

While I do wish the T7 had a fully articulating screen, the LCD does look nice and is perfect for reviewing images or shooting in Live View.

Both the Nikon D3500 and the Canon T7 are equally matched with each one winning on even counts and matching the other on the rest. It is hard to pick one over the other. And that is why two things will matter to you. One is the price and the other is ergonomics.

Ergonomics is a subjective thing. You would be best off visiting a store, then you could actually pick both these cameras up in your hands and figure out which one feels right in your hands.

The other deciding parameter is the price. The Canon T7 is a good 100 bucks cheaper. Both the cameras come with a kit lens. The 18-55mm wide zoom. Both Nikon and Canon have established a lens lineup. Plus countless other compatible lenses are available from third-party manufacturers. There is no real reason to believe you have a distinct advantage over the other if you go with one brand. You will find plenty of lens options to choose from regardless of the brand you go for. And in the right hands, both these cameras are equally good at capturing great images.

#3 How to Choose a Suitable MILC & SLRC Cameras

Before choosing a camera, I suggest you think about the following four questions:

  • What do you want to shoot?
  • What’s your budget?
  • What stage of photography are you in?
  • What brand of cameras do your friends use?
  1. What do you want to shoot? That is, the subject matter you shoot, which is very important for which camera you choose.

We can roughly classify the common shooting themes as follows:

Portrait photography has certain requirements for depth of field;

Shooting children and sports photography require high focusing performance of the camera;

Tourism photography requires relatively light fuselage and complete focal section coverage as far as possible;

Wildlife photography requires the focal length to be long enough and so on.

In addition, with the popularity of short video and vlog, video shooting ability has become an important reference dimension when people buy cameras. Only when you have determined your subject matter can you determine what kind of performance camera you need.

  1. What’s your budget?

It’s hooliganism to let others recommend cameras without saying the budget. The price range of cameras is too large, ranging from one or two thousand to hundreds of thousands. Only by explaining the purchase budget first can others give appropriate and reasonable recommendations.

Generally speaking, the performance of the camera is positively correlated with the price. Under certain conditions, the higher the price, the better the performance of the camera.

Therefore, when I recommend cameras to others, I like to say “buy the most expensive one within the budget”.

  1. What stage of photography are you in now

Different photography stages are also important factors affecting camera selection. The needs of “novice” and “veteran” are different.

Some partners are novices who have never been in contact with photography. They simply want to take photography as a hobby or travel to take photos; It is suggested that these small partners buy an entry-level APSC picture frame first to see if they have a continuous enthusiasm for photography, and then decide whether to upgrade the equipment.

Some small partners have been playing entry-level machines for some time and want to upgrade their equipment; It is suggested that these small partners can give priority to upgrading the picture frame and focusing on lens configuration.

There are also some young partners who are novices or have been in contact with photography and want to develop in a professional or professional direction; It is suggested that these small partners should be directly in place in one step and start with the whole picture.

Of course, if you have a sufficient budget, you can buy expensive ones directly. After all, you get everything for every penny. The camera experience with high price is far better than that of entry-level machines.

  1. What brand of camera are your friends playing with.

The bayonet systems of cameras of different brands are not unified, so the lenses of SLR and micro single cameras of different brands or even the same brand are incompatible. Therefore, if you want to borrow a friend’s lens, you’d better choose the brand that your friends play most.

But there is one thing to pay attention to. The camera belongs to valuables that are easy to be damaged. Don’t easily lend photographic equipment to others, and don’t easily borrow other people’s equipment.
